An End Of Year Review To Release Stress, Pain & Anxiety

MIND BODY WISE PODCAST

Episode 7

How did this year work out for you?

Blue book with the words journal for the Mind Body Wise Podcast about releasing pain and anxiety

Did you accomplish all you set out to at the beginning of the year?

If you haven't yet had 5 minutes to spare to consider this question, I'd strongly recommend you do. In fact, an hour would be even better! I call it a Review, Reflect and Release (RRR) ritual, a process to help recognise and celebrate what’s worked and to consciously leave behind any of the undesirable loads, emotions or energy you accumulated over the year.

In my personal and professional experience, we're often held back from being our best and most vibrant selves by things we don't even realise.

It's just one reason (amongst many) why New Year's Resolutions don't work particularly well. We can plough into a New Year without having appreciated just how far we've come in the last one, such is the nature of our fast-paced lives. At times, there are patterns and beliefs to release and leave behind. Other areas may have worked out so well, that it’s worth taking a moment to recognise exactly what we did so we can keep on doing it!

Perhaps most importantly, there are likely cherished memories that we want to imprint in our hearts and hold there forever.

I do a review process personally and with my clients every year and love hearing them reflect on their primary accomplishments, which are often quite different to what they'd set out to achieve.

Here's some of the ones they shared this year:

  • I no longer experience a daily rollercoaster of emotions - the anxiety and overwhelm have completely settled, I feel much more grounded and clear.

  • The headaches / back pain / knee pain that was stopping me run / move has completely gone - I’m so much stronger physically and mentally.

  • I no longer need my anti-anxiety / anti-inflammatory / painkiller medication.

  • I lost 8 kilos. But it's more than that...I buy clothes that fit me, not ones that 'nearly' fit and are still in the wardrobe with the labels on, and I can like what I see in photos

  • I'm more accepting and can deal with triggers and challenging people with much more ease.

  • I actually now really like myself - it sounds like a cliché but there's a level of self-love that just wasn't there before. I actually feel ready to meet my soul mate.

  • I’ve met a guy who I’m enjoying a really healthy relationship with - for the first time ever!

  • I feel much more confident at work and take the lead when required. The exhausting self-doubt and sabotage are much reduced.

  • I took the plunge and left my secure and prestigious job. In doing so, I found my ideal job I’m passionate about!

  • I moved country to where I truly feel at home and now feel life is truly limitless!

  • I actually feel balanced, I've rediscovered ME.

Priceless awarenesses and accomplishments don't you think?

Here's a simplified version of the Review, Reflect and Release process to help recognise just how far you've come this year:

Cosy fire with coffee cup ready for reflection journalling

  1. Flip through your diary / journal for the year and consider - what are the 12 highlights of the year?

  2. Do you notice any positive patterns that help helped you succeed or feel the way you desire?

  3. Do you notice any negative patterns that have held you back or got in your way?

  4. Are there any experiences / feelings you need to release for this year?

It’s natural to want to rush ahead towards the new energy of the New Year. It’s hopeful and exciting. It can feel uncomfortable to visit certain areas, particularly when they feel like failures that we’d rather forget. It often is easier to stay busy to avoid the pain.

Yet if we take a moment to release the loads, emotions and beliefs that are no longer serving us, we can move into the next phase of our life significantly lighter and more consciously. This I find is where the magic happens, and hence why I take my clients through a guided end of year release process.

There are so many gifts in being present with what is and learning the tools to reach a point of acceptance, or make the decision it's time to make some changes.

Wouldn't it be great if you could not only accomplish all you desire next year, but feel calm, healthy and energetic alongside?  In my experience this 3 Rs process can absolutely relieve stress, pain, overwhelm, negativity and anxiety to help move forwards feeling lighter in the body and clearer in the mind.

Rest assured that the time invested in wrapping up this year, will reap dividends next. It will likely make the festive season much less overwhelming and more fun. THEN you'll be set to dream big and map out all your hopes and dreams for the new year ahead.
